Twilight vs. Harry Potter
Since I'm extremely bored and tired at the moment, I've decided to compare Twilight and HP to see which one is the better series... In my opinion. I'm not about to go digging through ten books to warrant my opinions, so this is all off the top of my head; the facts may or may not be entirely true. o_o
First of all, I think HP is the better series.Let's see, it has better characters, way more plot, less "wtf"-ness-- need I go on? But let me explain in greater detail.
Harry Potter > Bella.
Bella, as a whole, didn't leave that much of an impression on me, despite that the story is told from her point of view. All I got from her, really, was "I'm a Mary-Sue! :'DDDD Everyone loves me and thinks I'm hot and I'm in this love triangle with a werewolf and a vampire and although I really love the vampire, I decided to lead on the werew"-- no.
She seemed promising in the beginning, when I learned she was an albino, but then I continued on to read: "In certain lights, my skin shines" or whatever.... Seriously?! Let me go check wikipedia, but last I heard, Albinos don't fucking glitter or shine or whatever the fuck she does. They stay pale and white. Nothing more, nothing less.
And how many people/species fall in love with her? There's that dorky guy; the jock; the guy that almost killed her; Jacob; and lastly, Edward. I probably missed a few too. Edward says later on in the first book, "On the first day of school, do you know how many guys wanted to fuck you?" Not with that exact wording of course, but you catch my drift. Bottom line: a shitload of guys were in love with her. Mm-hm, that's definitely not the makings of a Mary-Sue.
She always has to be saved by one of her love interests: Edward saved her countless times and I'm sure Jacob saved her quite a bit too. I just can't remember any instances because I try to block out New Moon.
Speaking of New Moon, reading the summary on wikipedia makes it sound interesting. It wasn't. It might've just been me, but wading through the "BAAAAAAAAAW HE LEFT ME -cutcut-" was a tad boring.
Harry on the other hand, is a lot more believable as a character. Maybe not so much in the beginning of the series, but towards the ending-- yeah. He goes through stages, like every teen does. The angsty, No-one-understands-me stage, the stage where you finally take notice of the opposite sex, etc. Whereas Bella goes through two stages: Happy-Happy-Joy-joy I Love Edward stage and the emo He Left Me stage. Really diverse.
To be fair, there's seven HP books and only three TL books, but TL is told through first-person, making character development easier... Or at least, in most cases it would.
I'll admit that HP is sterotypical too at times, but not nearly as much as TL is. They both have the new kid at school starting plots-- but Harry Potter takes that and runs with it. Twilight goes off on a completely different tangent.
Meh. I'll continue this later. I've got other things to do at the moment.
edit: Continue'd.
The side characters (everyone besides THE main character) in HP > TL. Hagrid is a rough but lovable giant, Lupin is a lolomfggheysexybbq werewolf, Sirius is.... Sirius, and the way that Hermione and Ron interact is great.
Let's see.. TL has Jacob, who, I admit, is a pretty good character but still a tad unoriginal, Jessica is the friend-turned-bitch that is a must-have in every romance novel to make the reader feel sympathetic to the heroine, Alice was in an insane asylum but is still happy and cheery and peppy, Edward is a sparkly vampire. 'Nuff said.
As said before, you have more time to get used to the characters in HP than TL, but still... In three books, I learned that Edward is the embodiment of angsty love --hold the hormones--, Jacob wants to have werewolf babies with Bella, and Charlie is a fucking dumbass.
While in the first three books of HP, I learned: Ron is a obstinate, loyal, immature kid who's afraid of spiders, Hermione is a know-it-all, etc. etc. (I don't really feel like going on about that, since I haven't slept for almost a day.)
Plot.. Ah, what I've been itching to get at.
TL: Girl meets vampire, falls in love, flirts, almost dies, vampire goes rabid then leaves, girl misses vampire, girl cuts, girl meets werewolf, girl goes insane, girl almost gets killed multiple times, girl falls in lust? motherly affection? with werewolf, girl stops vampire from killing itself, girl and vampire are together again, girl and vampire kill female vampire, girl has to turn into a vampire or the end of the world will come or something.
HP: Boy learns he's a wizard, boy gets two friends, boy learns about Voldemort his arch-nemesis, boy almost kinda kills Volde, Potions teacher dies, boy forcefully discovers if he uses magic outside of school bricks will be shat, boy meets house elf... Please tell me that you get the point.
Anyways, JK Rowling has so many plot twists that we should've saw coming but we were too busy searching for clues in the wrong places. Meyers... Well, the only plot twist I can think of is that Victoria came back or something. And that's not much of a twist, imo.
And that's all I want to write. ò_ó
